Smith Mountain Lake, often referred to as the “Jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains,” is Virginia’s second-largest freshwater lake, boasting over 500 miles of shoreline. Created in 1963 by the impoundment of the Roanoke River, the lake spans 32 square miles and reaches depths of up to 220 feet.
